Diagnostic Criteria

The diagnostic criteria comprises of three techniques: visual, touch and interrogation. The visual diagnosis involves observing the physical structure, complexion, the eyes, the color and texture of blood, sputum, feces, and other general conditions. Specifically, the tongue and urine are examined. Diagnosis by touch involves feeling the temperature, the magnitude of lumps, cyst or tumor, abnormalities and other general conditions. Specifically, radial pulse is examined. A competent physician after examining the pulse with single pointed concentration can reveal precise nature of imbalances that modern machine sometimes fails to deliver. This is one of the most fascinating feature that Tibetan physicians are really proud of and continues to enjoy its supremacy. Interrogation involves asking various questions related to the problem with regard to diet and behavior. It is one of the most important clinical aspect of the diagnosis. By employing all the three main techniques of diagnosis, Tibetan physician tries to understand the actual cause of the problem by assessing the state of imbalances of Lhung, Tripa and Badkan specifically and to determine the hot and cold nature of the problem in general.

Treatment Criteria

Treatment criteria comprises of four different techniques. They are diet, behavior, medicine and external therapy. All these different therapeutic measures are aimed at bringing the imbalanced elemental energies back to its balanced state. While executing any form of treatment, Tibetan physician attempts to give a complete and thorough treatment embracing the principles of "Holistic Treatment". Dietary advices and lifestyle changes may be recommended in case the imbalance is not significant. Depending on the nature and intensity of the problem, the physician decides whether to combine all the remedial means together or separately. The use of external therapies will only be employed as a means of last resort. Different forms of Tibetan medicines are being made strictly in conformity with its procedures and mechanism. The principal ingredients used in manufacturing different forms of Tibetan medicine are purely of natural origin, accounting for about 90% of herbs and 10% minerals. These different natural medicines are completely safe and free of any substantial sife-effects. Depending on the individual constitution, the body's response to the effect of Tibetan medicine will be different for different person. This clearly explain the fact that two person with the same problem and the same prescription of remedy may give different response to the effect of medication. For Tibetan medicine practitioners it is very important to have an idea of the body constitution of each patient to execute complete and holistic approach of treatment.
